Aston Villa defender Mark Delaney could make a surprise comeback in tomorrow’s Barclaycard Premiership clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Welsh international suffered a second knee problem in the game with Tottenham at White Hart Lane a fortnight ago.

But Delaney has returned to training and David O’Leary will consider putting him in his squad against the Red Devils if he suffers no reaction.

Peter Whittingham is likely to be restored in midfield after being rested for the Carling Cup tie with Crystal Palace.

Striker Peter Crouch will add to O’Leary’s striking options when he returns from a three-month loan spell with Norwich after this weekend.

Team (from): Sorensen, Delaney, De la Cruz, Mellberg, Dublin, Samuel, Hendrie, McCann, Whittingham, Barry, Angel, Vassell, Allback, Johnsen, Ridgewell, Postma, S Moore, Hitzlsperger.
