Giggs visits Netherlands to meet Van Gaal
The Netherlands manager is set to be named successor to the recently- sacked David Moyes and Giggs, who took interim charge for the final four games of the season, is expected to be his right-hand man at Old Trafford.
Giggs, who is yet to decide whether to extend his career, was pictured outside the Hotel Oranje in Noordwijk before returning to England and attending the U21 Premier League final between United and Chelsea at Old Trafford, a game the Blues won 2-1.
There has been a strong preference at board level for continuity on the coaching staff and Giggs is held in high esteem by the United hierarchy.
His lack of experience meant he was not considered for the job, but Giggs is regarded as a potential future manager.
Meanwhile, Moyes, who has been keeping a low profile since his inglorious United exit last month, was enjoying some golf tips from European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley yesterday.
Moyes played alongside the Dublin native at the Open de Espana ProAm on the PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona.
McGinley, a fan of Celtic and West Ham, admitted in an interview last year that he has been watching football bosses more intently to learn some management tips, ahead of Europe’s clash with the USA in September.
“I do the same with soccer, watching the managers in their interviews afterwards. It’s something I have an interest in and it’s not just the last couple of years. I’ve always had it.
“I am very much intrigued with the psychology of sport and the management of sporting people. I will gather information like I always do.
“But I am very conscious in the next 18 months of not over-complicating things and making things too difficult, not just for the players, but for myself as well.”
