José gets red card as pet is hounded

CHELSEA manager José Mourinho insisted yesterday his pet Yorkshire Terrier has all the “necessary inoculations” after a row with police over the dog’s quarantine status.

Mourinho — arrested and cautioned following an argument with police on Tuesday night — said the incident was the result of a “misunderstanding” over documents required for veterinary regulations.

A spokesman said: “Jose Mourinho can confirm that he was cautioned by police, and released without charge earlier [yesterday] morning after an incident involving his pet dog.

“The incident occurred due to a misunderstanding over documents required for veterinary regulations.

“Mr Mourinho would like to make it clear that his pet dog was bought in England from a reputable breeder and has had all its necessary inoculations.

“Full co-operation will be given to the authorities.”

Mourinho, 44, resisted officers who wanted to put the dog in quarantine, fearing it had been taken abroad, then brought back to Britain, without jabs.

He was given a caution at a west London police station for obstructing officers.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said officers went to an address in central London at 7.45pm with an Animal Health and Welfare Service officer.

A police spokesman said the dog was still at large.

Ladbrokes said the dog is 100/1 to appear with the Chelsea boss in the dugout at Wembley this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Manchester City footballer Joey Barton has been arrested after a training ground bust-up with team mate Ousmane Dabo at the club’s training ground in Manchester.

England midfielder Barton, 24, has been suspended by his club, and was bailed until July 11, while police investigate the incident. Dabo, 30, said Barton left him bruised, battered and looking like “the Elephant Man”.
