Unlucky break for Baker

George Baker faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking an arm in a fall at Wolverhampton last night.

The jockey may need surgery after suffering the injury when his mount, Flowing Cape, broke a leg and came down in the final furlong of a claimer over an extended mile.

Baker was taken to hospital, but allowed home later.

“He’s broken his humerus – the bone right at the top of his arm by the shoulder joint,” confirmed Baker’s agent Guy Jewell.

“It’s very swollen at the moment. When it goes down they will probably have it operated on in a couple of days.

“Nobody has mentioned any time schedule or anything. He’s at home, but his arm is very swollen and bruised at the moment.

“When the swelling has gone down I imagine they will assess it again and go from there.”
