Southwell abandoned

Southwell have abandoned this afternoon's meeting due to a waterlogged track.

Clerk of the course David Williams had planned to stage a 7.30am inspection but he brought that check forward after heavy overnight rain.

He said: "We had 12 millimetres of rain overnight and the course is currently waterlogged.

"We could have coped with three to four millimetres after two days of drying weather but the rain we got has just tipped the balance.

"We have had six and a half inches of rain since the beginning of the year and the ground is saturated."
