Ruby sidelined for ten weeks

RUBY WALSH faces a long spell on the sidelines following his fall from Celestial Halo in the Aintree Hurdle at Liverpool on Saturday.

Walsh met orthopaedic surgeon, Bill Quinlan, in Dublin yesterday and was informed he can expect to be out of action for about ten weeks.

“My left upper arm is broken in two places and, while I would obviously have preferred if this didn’t happen, it is part of the job and such is life, “ said Ruby. “My arm is in a cast and there is not a whole lot I will be able to do over the next few weeks other than hope it heals well and see when I can get back.”

Reflecting on the Liverpool tumble, Walsh reported: “The damage was done by Won In The Dark coming from behind. He stood on my shoulder and the pressure broke my arm.”

The incident happened at the sec ond last flight, with Celestial Halo travelling powerfully in front when departing.

Walsh, while philosophical, is very disappointed to be missing some major assignments in the closing weeks of the campaign.

“I will miss the Scottish National (Ayr) on Saturday and then Punchestown next week. There are also some big races coming up in France, but when they are all over there won’t be much of a rush on me after that. I would, however, hope to riding again before Galway.

“Summer racing has never been high on my agenda anyway and, while it’s disappointing, there are people in far worse places than me.”
