Tiger Woods completed an outstanding year by firing a six-under-par 66 in Sunday’s final round to win the Target World Challenge in California, the tournament that benefits his own foundation.

The top-ranked golfer started the season with a win at the Buick Open and picked up seven more titles along the way, including the Open Championship at Hoylake and the US PGA Championship.

Woods posted eight birdies in the final round at the Sherwood Country Club to finish four strokes ahead of Geoff Ogilvy.

The world number one surrendered the lead after a bogey on the 16th on Saturday to Ogilvy, who took a one-shot lead into the final round over Woods and Chris DiMarco.

Woods birdied the second and third while Ogilvy double-bogeyed and DiMarco bogeyed the second.

After a bogey on number four, Woods closed out the front nine with birdies on three of the final five holes to take a comfortable lead and capture the $1.35m (€1m) first prize.

DiMarco (71) finished third at 11-under with Sweden’s Henrik Stenson (69) fourth another shot back.

Ireland's Padraig Harrington finished eighth in the 16-player event.
