Two under par overnight Havret birdied all the first four holes – and then came crashing back down with a double-bogey six at the 370-yard fifth.

It was still a start Colin Montgomerie would have traded. Only one under at halfway the seven-time European number one, nine adrift of 50-year-old leader Eduardo Romero, did not drop a stroke over the opening seven holes, but his only birdie was on the fifth.
