Putter could make £2,500 at auction

A rare longnose golf putter dating from the mid-19th century is expected to fetch between up to £2,500 (€3,670) when it goes up for auction today.

The beechwood club, manufactured in about 1850 by James Wilson at the spiritual home of the game, St Andrews, is among some 600 items of golfing memorabilia being sold.

The auction was taking place at the Telford Golf and Country Club in Shropshire.

John Mullock, of auctioneers Mullock Madeley, said the sale had attracted interest and pre-sale bids from fans and collectors across the world.
