A new sponsor has been found for the popular North of Ireland Amateur Open Championship.

Magners Cider has agreed to take over backing of the competition that attracts 300 golfers, from all over Ireland and abroad, each year.

After the previous sponsors pulled the plug, the tournament didn't have a backer last season but Magners have new signed on the dotted line and will give their support to the event for this year at least but probably much longer.

"We have been working on getting a new sponsor for two years and it's good to find one in these times of tight purses," says GUI Ulster Branch secretary Brendan Edwards.
