Liam Cahill revamps Tipperary hurling backroom team for 2027

Liam Cahill has remodelled his Tipperary senior hurling backroom team for the 2027 season with three further departures and seven additions confirmed. 

Selectors Declan Laffan and TJ Ryan have both left along with strength and conditioning coach Angelo Walsh. All three were part of the backroom team for Tipperary's 2025 All-Ireland triumph. During the summer, it was confirmed that David Herity would be leaving Cahill's coaching ticket to join Henry Shefflin's management team in his native Kilkenny. Mikey Bevans will continue as head coach under Cahill.

Shannon Rovers' Seán O'Meara, Mullinahone's Brian O'Meara and Crumlin's Paul O'Brien have been appointed selectors. O'Brien, who was an analyst with Tipperary in 2025, will also provide coaching support, as will Aidan Stakelum. Holycross-Ballycahill's Stakelum was a coach with the Laois hurlers this year as they won the Joe McDonagh Cup.

John Murphy from Kilkenny club Clara comes on board as strength and conditioning coach while Kilruane MacDonaghs' Diarmuid Cahill will be the goalkeeping coach. 

Anne-Marie Kennedy will be the team's performance coach. She previously worked with the Dublin footballers under Jim Gavin during their run to five consecutive All-Ireland titles, along with the Clare hurlers, and the Galway footballers. The high performance psychologist has also provided support to Golf Ireland, Cricket Ireland, Swim Ireland, Cycling Ireland, and Horse Sport Ireland. 

2027 will be Cahill's fifth season as Tipperary manager. In July, he was reappointed for a further three-year term which runs until 2029. 

Meanwhile, at the Kilkenny county board meeting on Monday night, seven-time All-Ireland winner Brian Hogan was ratified as the county's U20 hurling manager.
