Patrick Kelly: Cork will need three goals to take Killarney

Kerry manager Jack O’Connor and co have said all the right things, as expected, this week. For the first time in a long time, I actually believe them.

Cork return to Killarney for a Munster final meeting with their nearest and dearest for the first time since 2021 in confidence, rather than hope, as has been the case more often than not in the past decade. The 10 most recent championship meetings have resulted in nine Kerry wins (including four hammerings) with the solitary Cork victory coming courtesy of Mark Keane’s late intervention in the covid year of 2020.

Given the Kingdom are the reigning All-Ireland champions it is a strange feeling as a Cork man to be travelling with such confidence and belief that this Rebels team might become the first side since 1995 to return over the county bounds having bested Kerry in a Munster SFC game.
