The tears that flowed in Croke Park last Sunday when the final whistle heralded Louth’s first Leinster SFC success in 68 years were a joyous reminder of the emotional power of sport.

Part of that outpouring was pure relief. If another Leinster final had been lost to a late score, it would have been truly brutal.
