Liam Sheedy: For Cork and Tipp, character is one thing, but consistency is everything

The games can swing wildly and there are often twists and turns before matters are decided.

We were all reared on the Munster Championship and my most vivid memories of going to matches are full of Tipp v Cork. I could nearly trace out the eighties in Tipp v Cork, despair and eventually joy. The atmosphere at the games between the sets of supporters was always electric. But even when Cork were having the better of things, you sensed a wonderful mutual respect between the counties.

I was on the bank in 1987 for the famous victory in Killarney, carried along in wild waves of jubilation as the crowd shifted 10 yards or more after a Tipperary goal. I can still nearly feel the vibrations of that outburst of pure joy when Richie Stakelum climbed the steps.
