PORTO completed the treble of league, cup and Europa League in style on Sunday, thrashing Vitoria de Guimaraes 6-2 in the cup final in Lisbon.

The manner of victory was more in keeping with the kind of football their coach Andre Villas-Boas wants to become known for. In the Aviva Stadium press room after the Europa League final, the 33-year-old seemed almost embarrassed as he discussed the dull match his team had just won.

“The only thing we have to regret today is that the spectacle was not up to Portuguese standards,” he said. “It didn’t reflect the quality of the teams. It’s a pity both teams were unable to explain themselves to the fullest.”
