Make it Moiqen - as long as ground remains good

AS long as the ground remains on the good side, Kevin Prendergast’s Moiqen can land the Listed Martin Molony Stakes at Limerick tonight.

Make it Moiqen - as long as ground remains good

All the evidence is that the better the surface the more effective he is and, granted the right conditions, the selection will prove hard to beat.

He has run two solid races this season, on unfavourably heavy surfaces. In a Group 3 at the Curragh, the son of Red Ransom finished third behind Curtain Call and then stepped into Group 1 company next time.

That was in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, back at the Curragh. Moiqen ran prominently for most of the ten furlongs, before fading into fourth behind Casual Conquest.

Prendergast’s gelding has a minimum of 8lbs in hand of all of his rivals and is fancied to enjoy a first success since taking the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown in April of last year.

Charlie Swan’s Zaralabad is the nap choice in the Peter Clohessy’s Bar and Sin Bin Nightclub Race.

The five-year-old has shown significant improvement of late and was a little unlucky not to be awarded a 14 furlongs contest at Listowel, after going under by a short head to the smart Magen’s Star.

Aidan O’Brien sets a poser by running both Mark Twain and Reggae Dancer in the opening Events Parking EBF Median Auction Maiden.

Preference is for Mark Twain, who was no match for Moran Gra when three lengths adrift of Joanna Morgan’s charge at Leopardstown.

The effort was seen in a different light, however, when Moran Gra ran a cracker to finish a creditable fourth behind Richard Hannon’s impressive Canford Cliffs in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.
