Fancy your very own putting green on Cork’s Blackrock Road?

This one actually comes with an adjoining four-bed spacious detached house as well.

Well, to be strictly accurate, 9 Janeville on Blackrock Road has its own putting green in the back garden.

Already of a good size and layout when it was built in the 1970s , this home has been reconfigured, modernised, and upgraded a few times along the way.

These works have given it a solid B energy rating and some family friendly modifications — the bi-fold doors in the kitchen are just one example. These open right back to completely merge the indoors and outdoors on sunny days. There also smaller bi-fold windows in the west-facing front bay window. An earlier attic-level conversion has really maximised the living space at this 331 sq m home.

You’d have to go back nearly a decade to find a Janeville house that sold for less than a million euro. More recently Nos 20 and 21 in this 21-home estate sold for €1.52m and €1.25m respectively in 2025 and 2022.

These homes were always sure of their worth and were once described as the ‘dearest new homes in Cork’. This 1976-built house was bought new for £72k. Since then it changed hands for €825k, in 2004 — in a transaction handled by the same agent as is handling the current sale for €1.45m.

The owners, a family, are now downsizing. Brian Olden of Cohalan Downing notes strong interest from other families in buying this “fine house with a lovely putting green at the back”.

“It’s in very good condition and has a lovely garden,” Mr Olden adds.

There is also a raised deck area in the back garden with mature shrubs around the boundaries.

Indoors there is plenty of living space of varying proportions suited to meeting up as well as having some quieter time. There are three living room/lounges as well as an office and the large open-plan kitchen/dining area on the ground level. The kitchen, with its Aga stove has ample seating spots with a central island as well as room for a large dining table.

And upstairs are four double bedrooms with stairs from the landing to the two attic rooms and extra bathroom.

It’s a very manageable 350m stroll or ‘scoot’ to the nearest primary school at Crab Lane. And there are mixed and girls’ secondary schools a few minutes away by car or bus.

Ballintemple village with its pharmacy, two pubs — The Venue and Longboats — grocery store and Basil café/deli is practically within sight. And the local post office, which proudly had a gold-coloured post box outside in 2024 to honour a very local Oscar winner, is just 500m away.

A little further in either direction along the Blackrock Road you have food options with the popular Salt café /wine bar on Victoria Road or Cameron Bakery and Pier Head and Leaping Salmon gastropubs at Blackrock village, as well as the Blackrock Castle Café on Castle Road.

The magnificent Marina Promenade and Atlantic Pond, with trees in all sorts of autumnal shades at the moment are very close by and there’s access to the Blackrock-Passage Greenway from here too.

And if you want to show off your driving and putting skills to more than just family then Ballinlough Pitch and Putt Club (1.1km away) and Mahon Golf Course (3.3km) are near options.

VERDICT: Any keen golfers in the household will definitely feel this is a tee-riffic spot to putt down roots.
