Wish List: Cool buys to add winter sparkle to your home

Trust winter wonderlands like Denmark to have it sussed when it comes to Christmas comfort.

Jysk, the Danish homeware brand, has so many tricks up its sequinned sleeve as it conjures up holiday magic.

We’re dreaming of movie marathons (Bad Santa on loop, anyone?) wrapped up in the OD fleece throw (€20), while the Sleipner Christmas decoration set of three (€15) adds a tasteful touch.

COUNTER CULTURE

Over the past year kitchen makers such as Kube have seen a dramatic increase in demand for Dekton as the worktop of choice for customers.

Dekton, from Cosentino, Spain is a sophisticated mixture of more than 20 minerals extracted from nature.

A carbon-neutral product, its raw materials are fused and compressed under high pressure to create a slab material that is very dense and compact. This means there are no pores, making it stain, heat and scratch-resistant.

Dekton is available in a variety of thicknesses (from 4mm-30mm) and a myriad of colours in a variety of finishes from ultra-glossy to matte or velvet options.

The main advantage of Dekton is that there is no staining, scratching or heat damage from pots and pans being taken off the hob or out of the oven, according to Dave Fagan, director, Kube: "It is extremely resilient and lasts a lifetime.

"It is similar in cost to quartz or granite but withstands abrasion more than those materials making it ideal for high levels of activity daily."
