Furniture and collectibles in sale from a Georgian house

A 19th-century console table with green marble top and a rosewood octagonal centre table will highlight Hegarty’s sale in Bandon on Sunday week at 4pm.

The furniture is from a Georgian town house in Kinsale, home of the late artist James McManus, who had a huge interest in antique furniture and architecture.

There is a selection of mid-20th century Danish furniture, a signed 18th Chinese teapot in the unusual form of a curved piece of bamboo with the lid in the shape of a mouse, and three Irish carved bog oak pipes.

The sale will also offer a selection of jewellery from various private collections including rings, earrings and necklaces.

This 19th-century console table is at Hegarty’s sale in Bandon tomorrow week.

Soccer files are top of the game

THE story of Irish football from the 1930s to the new millennium is contained in football

programmes at Whyte’s sale in Dublin next Saturday at 11.30am.

The earliest is for an Ireland v Hungary game at Dalymount Park in 1936. The most sought-after include games between domestic teams and the giants of European football. The signed programme for the game between Manchester United and a Home Farm selection in 1956, less than two years before the Munich air disaster, is particularly poignant.

The Fergus Reid collection of Irish football programmes is expected to attract much competitive bidding. He was a lifelong supporter of Bohemians.

The 576-lot sale will feature sporting memorabilia, rare books, signed first editions, militaria, coins, banknotes, silverware, advertising posters and curios.
