Letter to the Editor: Cork Luas sounds great but no plan for clean water?

So Cork is to get its own Luas? Great idea for sure, but hang on.

So Cork is to get its own Luas? Great idea for sure, but hang on.

Irish Water was formed to fund the cost of replacing our crumbling water and wastewater infrastructure (not a stealth tax!), and abandoned at a huge cost.

Now, our small island of 5m people can finance a children’s hospital, a national broadband plan, and now a Cork Luas, at colossal (spiralling) costs, yet no money for clean water?

A Macroom bypass promised with 30 years still hasn’t happened, and here in the Kingdom, the South Kerry Greenway still hasn’t happened, a basic footpath around Killarney’s Lough Leane still hasn’t happened, and I live beside a

170-year-old bridge where two cars cannot pass each other, linking the two of the busiest tourist towns of Killarney and Dingle, it was also to be replaced within the last 30 years, and once again, it hasn’t happened!

Who comes up with these plans? Who comes up with the non-plans?

Can we not make some progress with the slightly less ambitious plans first, please?

The mind boggles.
