Readers Blog: MetroLink will tear communities apart
The proposed new MetroLink will tear apart communities in south Dublin. We need a new link to the airport, but we don’t need it to mean the permanent closure of the Luas green line, from Sandyford to Charlemont.
MetroLink’s ‘new’ southern route is not a new line, just an expensive replacement to the only very-recently upgraded Luas line.
Ranelagh’s close-knit community, around Dunville Terrace, will be split in two, under what the planners euphemistically refer to as ‘required segregation’.
The Cowper stop will also become an eyesore, and the pedestrian bridges, required up and down the line, will inevitably deter the elderly, the disabled, and cyclists.
By all means, build a link to the airport, but abandon the expensive extension south, and connect to the Luas in the city centre.
