Condoms are essential in battle against AIDS
Either AIDS is a killer disease or it is not. If it is, it should be treated as such, and every available weapon, including the use of condoms, should be employed in the battle against it. Abstinence would be the right method to follow, but for sexually active young people the condom is one safeguard. I know some will say I am promoting promiscuity, but we have to accept reality.
Education and information are the best vaccines against AIDS. A secondary means of prevention is the use of the condom by those at risk from sexual transmission.
In the next decade, everyone may know someone affected by AIDS in Ireland, but for some it seems better to ignore the dangers than speak about sex. There is no room for complacency. The use of condoms must be encouraged if awareness of safe practice is to become widespread in the community.
