Skateboarders need a break - and a lesson
It’s a shame that the ‘compo culture’ now means that these young ‘urban warriors’ are denied the benefit of a dedicated skate park like that available to the youth of most modern European, US and Canadian cities.
The inevitable result is that, ever resourceful and undaunted, the skaters take to the streets to hone their skills.
Watching some of the stunts preformed on ramps, steps and railings, I am amazed at the courage and skill of some of the exponents.
But why do these young citizens leave so much litter behind them in Emmet Place each evening.
Despite all the progress and the apparent prosperity these youngsters enjoy, their lack of civic pride bears witness to the failure of all anti-litter campaigns and the prevalence of the notion that responsibility for our environment is someone else’s concern.
