Skateboarders need a break - and a lesson

CONGRATULATIONS on the wonderful picture of two young skateboarders enjoying themselves in the heart of Cork city (Irish Examiner, August 11).

It’s a shame that the ‘compo culture’ now means that these young ‘urban warriors’ are denied the benefit of a dedicated skate park like that available to the youth of most modern European, US and Canadian cities.

The inevitable result is that, ever resourceful and undaunted, the skaters take to the streets to hone their skills.
