Best in the world: who are they trying to fool?

‘LIES, damned lies and statistics:’ that is certainly the case when in comes to The Economist magazine’s recent survey claiming that Ireland is the best country in the world to live in.

Best in the world: who are they trying to fool?

Get a grip!

Are these economists, businesspeople and their rich friends so detached from the reality of daily life for most people that they believe such stuff?

How many people were surveyed and who were they?

Did anyone mention our sub-standard health service, public transport, roads, our rundown education sector, the growing gap between rich and poor and the huge underclass permanently stuck in grinding poverty with all of the attendant problems of malnourishment, violence and crime.

Did anyone mention the housing crisis where greedy speculators are driving up prices beyond the reach of many young people?

Did anyone mention homelessness and the down-and-outs to be seen lying in the lanes of our cities?

And that’s before we even get to rip-off Ireland.

The Economist should try again.
