IRFU must be converted to Connacht cause

I HAD the pleasure to be in Ericsson Park on January 11 for what could be Connacht’s last competitive home fixture as a professional team.

A record attendance of 4,000 was there to show support and to protest against the IRFU’s imminent announcement of Connacht’s demise that was so harshly leaked to the media two days before the biggest match in Connacht’s short professional history.

Everybody understands that the IRFU has to cut its cloth to measure, but by axing the successful young Connacht team they are doing irreparable damage to the future of rugby in Ireland.
