Long and short of a cryptic commentator

BY now everyone who reads any paper in the country will know Keith Nolan’s letters in the correspondence columns.

Long and short of a cryptic commentator

These short, lazy, narrow-minded letters are really beginning to annoy.

There were letters about us losing our ‘Oirishness’ and becoming too much like the Sassanachs; there were letters supporting the Dublin rioters in which he made stupid hypothetical comparisons between the sectarian Shankill Road and the main thoroughfare in our capital city, and recently he was blaming people (securocrats?) for trying to ruin the prospects of a united Ireland by bringing up little things like serious crimes and murders.

Can anyone else see a pattern here?

I have two questions for Keith Nolan:

1. What does it actually mean to be Irish?

2. Why is he so keen on achieving a united Ireland?

I hope he answers these questions in detail - not soundbites.
