Proposed cathedral changes are destructive

AT the recent oral hearing into the proposed reordering of St Colman’s Cathedral in Cobh it emerged that there is no liturgical need for the changes.

Proposed cathedral changes are destructive

It is a disgrace that parishioners are being told that this is required and that this excuse is being used to fool the planning authorities, when clearly it is not true.

The people of Cobh have been ignored for eight years on this issue, but we finally had our say at the hearing in Midleton.

The case is clear: a small number of the clergy wish to impose these changes and they do not care how much opposition there is in the local parish, or the dioceses for that matter. They are determined to have their way.

We, the people of Cobh, love our cathedral and do not wish to see it changed in any way, and particularly not in the way envisaged by the present plans. They are radical and destructive proposals and should not be allowed to happen to such an important and sacred building.

The people of Cobh are angry - it is hoped the Church authorities will see sense before it is too late.
