WHAT a fascinating week it was up to Sunday, May 26. Starting on the previous Monday night’s Questions & Answers, Michael McDowell tells Noel Dempsey and Fianna Fáil that no way are they bringing back university fees.

A day or two later Bertie Ahern suggests only high earners (€500,000 and over) would be asked to pay. Right up to Saturday night, statements and counter statements are publicly aired.

Late on Saturday night, a press conference is announced for Sunday morning to announce a decision.
