No mandate to join European superstate

The Government must not lead the people into an EU superstate with its own constitution and government.

No mandate to join European superstate

There is no mandate for the proposed EU constitution. It was never debated in the Dáil and the Irish people have not been consulted about it.

The Taoiseach should reject article 6 of the proposed EU constitution, which gives the EU a legal identity, and also reject article 10, which grants the EU primacy over member states.

Anything less leaves us with a ‘set menu’ and spells the end of our sovereignty.

The Taoiseach is being forced to accept a legally binding charter. He has stated, on behalf of the nation, that this would never be acceptable. As Ireland assumes the EU presidency, the Government must guarantee that they will not sign up to an EU constitution which supersedes our own.
