Bishop told his superiors – but did he report abuse to police?

BEFORE your columnist Terry Prone launches a fund-raising campaign to erect a statue to American Bishop John D’Arcy commemorating all his good works (Irish Examiner, Dec 9), I want to put a few questions.

Did Bishop Darcy at anytime write to the police, or in the same volume as he wrote to his 'superiors'?

It was his duty, morally and in accordance with US law, to tell the police of his knowledge of a crime.

If he failed to do so, he was complicit nothing else. If he failed to do so, many more would have suffered at the hands of criminal clergy.

Surely he realises that Jesus Christ would have done a lot more. The good clergy now have the chance the only chance to shout loudest, act morally and behave in accordance with the law of the land to bring these criminals to heel.

I was an industrial school prisoner in the 1960s/'70s.
