We must act on phone and masts health threat

IS it the policy of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to discredit all independent scientific evidence of the adverse health effects caused by non-ionising radiation emissions from telecommunications masts?

We must act on phone and masts health threat

The British Independent Expert Group on Mobile Phones recently published the Stewart report. This said there were serious questions surrounding the impact of non-ionising radiation emissions on human health and, most notably, that telecommunications masts should not be located near schools and that children under eight should not be allowed to use mobile phones.

A spokesperson for the Department of Communications said there was nothing in the report which caused them concern.

Who are we to believe? The scientists who are highly qualified in this area, or the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources? As this industry generates over €2 billion in Ireland, it is hard to be independent if you have an economic interest in it.

There are many people in Ireland whose health and quality of life are affected by non-ionising radiation emissions from mobile telecommunications masts.

The Government must stop playing Russian roulette with the health and well-being of its citizens, heed the views of the experts and take these scientific and medical reports seriously.
