Martin up there with the giants of medicine
However, our Health Minister Micheál Martin’s ban on smoking in work and public places will save as many lives in Ireland as these three together.
A similar ban in Denver, Colorado, has shown a decrease in emergency hospital admissions with sudden heart attacks.
Many people will live longer, have better quality lives and, more importantly, will leave more room and more money in the health system where it’s estimated that almost half the hospital beds and at least one-third of the health budget are taken up by smoking and smoking-related diseases.
So give Mr Martin the accolades he deserves and our full support as he is only interested in preserving our health.
