Motorway will not destroy our history

COMPLAINTS from supposedly concerned readers about the M3 near Tara continue to flood the letters pages.

This is the same sort of high-emotion, low-fact approach that has been stunting the country’s road growth for decades.

The road plan was approved by An Bord Pleanála because it made proper provision for archaeological exploration around the Tara site.

The M3 will not destroy our history, merely bring our road standards up to the present.

As for tolls, whether we like it or not they will be put in place. The best we can hope for is that the money taken in will be ring-fenced for further road improvements.
