Waste of effort
Numerous publications produced by Oireachtas committees come to nothing and get shelved.
These are very expensive to compile, involving thousands of hours in consultancy work, in addition to TDs who claim a fortune in expenses for serving on these committees.
There are by now hundreds of reports on poverty, crime, housing, education, health and many other issues gathering dust. The fact that new reports need to be commissioned proves that problems identified previously have only worsened.
Our system of government is more to do with the presentation of the problem than the solution.
