Great music from a homeless orchestra

I WISH to thank Dr Geoffrey Spratt for the musical spectacular at the University of Limerick on April 16.

Great music from a homeless orchestra

We were served a lavish banquet of music and choral singing that left us lost for words.

The music was played by almost 100 young people, members of a splendid youth orchestra that would rival the best in the world.

‘Carmina Burana’ was sung, by more than 300 voices. It was truly outstanding.

The sheer scale of the event, transporting all those people as well as their instruments to Limerick and back after the one performance, was amazing.

All the while I kept thinking of the amount of work required to produce this standard of excellence, especially when these wonderful people are working out of 17 different locations in Cork.

Shame on a government that has left the rebuilding of the Cork College of Music in such a precarious state for two years.

Shame on a government that neglects its responsibility to these dedicated students.

No words could adequately express our appreciation for the night at UL and our admiration of Geoffrey Spratt and company.

Pat Mortell,

Ballykeeffe,

Limerick.
