Show me the ‘large body of evidence’ that says incinerators are not harmful

IN reference to Mary Dundon’s report (Irish Examiner, July 19) where she quoted a spokesperson for Health Minister Mary Harney as saying: “It remains her (the minister’s) position that there is a large body of evidence that shows that modern, efficient and expertly managed incinerators are not a threat to food production or health.”

I sat through two oral hearings where the opponents of the plan to build not one but two incinerators in Ringaskiddy brought national and international experts to give evidence.

These experts gave testimony that there was no such thing as a safe incinerator and no such thing as a safe level of dioxins.

Could Ms Harney show me the report that says the citizens of this State will not be in danger? Show me the large body of evidence so that I, as a resident of Ringaskiddy, and my neighbours, can sleep peacefully at night.
