Instant peace process

THE president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has called for the population of Israel to be resettled in Europe or America. Perhaps he’s right to prompt more radical solutions, but here’s one high-level scenario that he probably wouldn’t like.

Instant peace process

All the elements would need to be implemented concurrently:

1 Israel renounces its independence, withdraws to its pre-1967 borders and becomes a fully-fledged state of the USA.

2 Palestine is granted membership of the EU, with major long-term reconstruction and development budgets agreed by member states.

3 Jerusalem becomes a UN-administered city, with policing and security provided by blue berets. UN headquarters is relocated from New York and both Israel and Palestine are permitted to locate their state legislatures in the city.

At the very least, it would unite Mr Ahmadinejad with all the anti-US groups in Ireland and around the world in condemnation of this proposition.
