Chernobyl project hits a peak of generosity

RECENTLY, the Chernobyl Children’s Project sent its 21st convoy of humanitarian aid, entitled Operation Hope XXI, to the victims and survivors of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Worth €2.9 million, it is the most valuable aid convoy ever sent there.

Chernobyl project hits a peak of generosity

The success of this latest convoy is thanks largely to the huge generosity of individuals, schools and organisations in every county in Ireland who have donated large quantities of humanitarian aid.

Our organisation has once again been humbled by the response of the Irish people.

On behalf of all at the Chernobyl Children’s Project I would like to thank all those who contributed to making our most recent convoy such an outstanding success.

April 26 is the 17th anniversary of the Chernobyl explosion, but the people of the region continue to be exposed to dangerously high level of radiation. While much of the world has forgotten about what the UN has described as “the worst environmental catastrophe in the history of humanity”, the people of Ireland have demonstrated once again the extraordinary empathy they have for the suffering of our fellow human beings in other parts of the world.

The Chernobyl Children’s Project deeply appreciates the support we continue to receive. Your efforts have shown the people of the Chernobyl zone that their plight is not forgotten.
