Rule change made under false pretences
I feel his views are unbalanced and disrespectful of those of us who oppose the opening of Croke Park to other sporting codes.
Firstly, it now appears the change to the GAA’s Rule 42 seems to have been gained under false pretences.
I’ve no doubt delegates voted for change, provided the safeguard of full planning for the redevelopment of Lansdowne Road was secured prior to any rugby or soccer games being allowed at Croke Park.
One wonders now if planning permission will ever be approved for Lansdowne Road. We now have a situation with no timeframe as to the use of Croke Park.
This was never a GAA problem. It was most unfair to put delegates in this position. With regard to the possibility of Irish people having to travel abroad to support international sides, let’s not forget that they travel in their thousands every year to support UK soccer and European rugby competitions.
Does Mr O’Flynn not realise that thousands of GAA people at grassroots level oppose the opening of Croke Park to other sports, but we have no voice.
The delegates who opposed this move were real GAA men and were quite entitled to state their views.
