No frills — but a sense of humour is essential

YOUR columnist Terry Prone’s views of Aer Arann are not shared by me (Irish Examiner, January 24).

No frills — but a sense of humour is essential

OK, on one very short flight, things did not go so well. Sometimes they don't, but if you have a grouse the place to send it is to the airline concerned not to a national newspaper.

I, too, am a writer flying with them from Cork to Dublin, Belfast and Edinburgh. I have never had a minute's trouble and the cabin crew are always courteous and helpful.

Ms Prone seems proud that she sat on the plane in 'perfect anonymity.' Surely we all do? If she objected to a 'four and a half mile walk to the little plane,' why did she not order a readily available wheelchair?

On the very short Cork-to-Dublin flight, do we really need coffee or mineral water? If Ms Prone ever flew JetMagic Cork-to-London, she would have loved the food and comfort. Alas, JetMagic is no more, while no-frills Aer Arrann flies gamely on.

I'll stay with them. As an experienced traveller, I have found that the most important thing to pack in your luggage is a sense of humour. If things go wrong, and they do, getting your knickers in a twist is such a waste of energy.
