No such thing as safe abortion

I WISH to take issue with Alex Marshall’s letter headlined ‘Why abortion should be legalised’ (Irish Examiner, August 13). He claims to have had thirty years experience of “reproductive health” programmes.

This is code for abortion-provider programmes, which are anything but “reproductive” health programmes.

Mr Marshall says he supports “safe, legal” abortion. In fact, he is so concerned with the “safety” aspect of abortion that he refers to it, directly or indirectly, four times in his short letter.
