Aer Lingus buyout plan is a conflict of interest
It is such a glaring conflict of interest for the very people who are charged with managing the company and returning it to profitability now to attempt to purchase the airline.
What of all the people who have lost their jobs, and what of all of us travellers who are subjected to the hardships of fewer routes and less seats?
Service from Newark was ended forcing all New Jersey and Pennsylvania passengers to travel to Kennedy airport in New York - and that’s not to mention the exorbitant fare structure in place now.
All these years, when the airline was bleeding money, the Irish taxpayer shelled out to keep it afloat. Now that it is profitable, why not give back to the taxpayer some of the millions they have poured into the operation?
Yes, you say, Willie Walsh and his colleagues are the people who returned it to profitability. But they have been handsomely paid for their efforts, have they not? If they succeed in this unethical buyout, their next step would be to sell it to the highest bidder so that the few become filthy rich while the workers, taxpayers and the travelling population get screwed.
I hope the Irish public wakes up and opposes this proposal before it is too late.
