Smokescreen for a deadlier addiction

THE determination of the Government to prevent damage to citizens’ health is causing dismay to many smokers and pub owners, as guarding one’s health has always been considered a private matter for each individual.

Smokescreen for a deadlier addiction

This distracts from the menacing problem of drug addiction. We often hear of garda triumphs in seizing large quantities of dangerous drugs being illegally imported, but never hear of the quantities that have been successfully brought in.

A priest recently noticed a queue of people openly waiting to get drugs from a house near the parish church.

Smoking in moderation cannot be compared to the evil of drug addiction, which destroys mind, body and soul.

Preventing smoking will drive more young people into taking drugs that are infinitely more harmful.
