I CANNOT understand why the Government doesn’t hold a referendum on immigration.

A simple proposal asking if there should there be stricter controls would at least give us a clear idea of what citizens feel on this issue. It would also give both sides the chance to debate their views.

All we have at the moment is confusion with conflicting reports, usually anecdotal and extremely subjective.
