MANY Catholics think the church has never changed its teaching on many moral issues, and argue that its teachings are “based on a correct understanding of the human according to unchanging natural moral law” (Paul Kokoski, Irish Examiner letters, June 18).

How the Church has changed its tune on sexual morality

Natural law is considered to be the moral foundation of the church’s teaching, and any action which contravenes it is considered immoral.

If this was the case, then the church would have to condemn all acts of medical intervention designed to improve or prolong the quality of a sick person’s life because they are contrary to natural law.
