Statement a slur on Bus Éireann passengers

I REFER to an article

In relation to public transport, Mr Hearne quoted Frank O’Donoghue of the Chamber of Commerce as stating that “no one in their right mind would go by bus between Waterford and Dublin and that Iarnród Éireann have a monopoly”.

I would like to point out to your readers, and to Mr Hearne, that Bus Éireann operates 14 services between Waterford and Dublin daily; we carry 25,000 passengers per year in each direction on this route in high quality vehicles operated by highly competent and professional drivers.

It is a very serious slur on the passengers who use our services, and indeed those of our competitors on the route, to suggest that they are not “in their right mind”.

Furthermore, Bus Éireann has invested very heavily in Waterford in recent years both in the infrastructure, by the provision of the new bus station, and in our fleet to serve the citizens of Waterford on city and suburban routes.
