Democracy under threat from e-voting

THE arrogance of the Minister for the Environment, Martin Cullen, in response to the very real concerns expressed by many of us at his introduction of electronic voting is breathtaking but only to be expected from this master of stealth taxes.

Democracy under threat from e-voting

It is also significant that the proposal to switch to electronic voting something that the electorate neither needed nor sought is coming from a Government that refused to accept the valid wishes of the electorate as expressed in the first Nice referendum.

People should be aware that our fragile democracy is under threat from a secretive and unverifiable voting system.

In a nutshell, I do not trust Mr Cullen and his Government colleagues.

There is nothing wrong with our tried and trusted ballot box.

Now is the time to make a stand and to say, loudly and clearly, that we will not accept any system of voting that lacks transparency and double-checking.

Mr Cullen should proceed cautiously.

The electorate will reject and, when the time comes, boycott electronic voting.
