Ireland subjected to the democracy test
Democratic Audit Ireland, the first comprehensive, objective and scientific audit of democracy in this country, should be of considerable importance to anyone interested in democracy and the future of the country.
TASC, Ireland’s think-tank for social change, is behind the project.
This is the first time democracy has been audited in Ireland and will provide a benchmark against which we will be able to judge progress in the future.
Uniquely this is the first time internationally that the audit will be informed by the work of an independent Democracy Commission, established by TASC and its sister think-tank in Belfast, Democratic Dialogue.
The Democracy Commission will hold its national consultative conference today (June 29) in Liberty Hall, Dublin, and on Friday, July 1, in NICVA offices, Belfast. The commission’s final report is due for publication this autumn.
We invite anyone who would like to take part in the audit project and fill out a questionnaire on democracy to log onto www.tascnet.ie.
