It's about time we cleared the air

IN his letter headlined "Smokers suffer the jeers of the self-righteous," (Irish Examiner, July 24) smoker John Mallon asks for, "understanding and compromise."

Where, exactly, was that understanding when smokers were poisoning the rest of us with their lethal tobacco smoke? There must be no compromise when it comes to clearing the air of the many carcinogens and toxins in tobacco smoke. Every one of us has a long-standing right to smoke-free air. No one has any "right" to smoke around others.

The only "false statistics" on smoking come from the tobacco people. Why doesn't John and the other minority who still use tobacco try blaming the creeps that sold a drug to them which is addictive, defective and lethal when used as intended?
