Cowards who abuse 'sinners' in God's name

TWO days after my letter headlined 'Self-righteous morality ignores complex factors behind abortion choice' (Examiner, Aug 31), I received an anonymous note through my letterbox citing a "prayer to save a child from abortion" and a "message from Jesus."

Cowards who abuse 'sinners' in God's name

In this note I was referred to as the "evil one who is now moving to bring the murder of innocents" into Ireland.

I find it ironic that those who claim to represent a "loving God" will resort to scare tactics and intimidation to force their beliefs on everyone else.

Condemnation does not come from God or Jesus, but from cowards, your average Christian who takes one or two verses from the bible to support their own values.

Religious fanatics dump their judgements on people in God's name, when God in fact has nothing to do with it. Women who choose to abort do not undertake the decision lightly.

Indeed, they have probably just made the most difficult decision of their lives. Women certainly don't need people imposing their religious view, that of 'sin,' on an already difficult situation.

Those who wear their religious robes tightly, like the person who wrote anonymously to me, would do well to remember that even Jesus, according to the bible, was compassionate and forgiving. He also urged that "he that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone."
